Study Objective: Review the major anatomical landmarks of a laparoscopic surgical procedure – emphasizing the fundamentals of the deep pelvic anatomy, a required knowledge for any pelvic surgeon.
Design: A compilation of laparoscopic surgical videos were used to elaborate a both instructional and clear mapping of the major anatomical structures that must be mastered by any pelvic surgeon.

Setting: With the improvement of diagnostic technologies, deeper and more intricate lesions are detected. This requires surgeons to elevated their anatomical knowledge, both to avoid unwanted damage and provide a more reliable treatment to patients. Superficial treatments were once accepted in these situations; however, we know now much more about invasive lesions – as various subtypes of cancers and endometriosis, afflicting the ureter, vessels, colon, diaphragm, bladder, nerves and many other structures – that now need to be also mastered by pelvic surgeons. If we do not know what we are looking for, nor what we have found, we are exposing our patients to great risk. The overarching goal must always be to combine anatomical knowledge with technical and tactical training.

Conclusion: In summary, a comprehensive review of the laparoscopic surgical anatomy was elaborated – serving as a pivotal resource for the learning process of pelvic surgeons.
