This video covers the many types of repairs available for inguinal hernias, with a focus on underlying principles that guide choice of mesh vs tissue repairs, as well as ‘open’ vs laparoscopic/MIS repairs. Some high yield anatomy is also covered, although this is not a comprehensive inguinal anatomy review- that would require its own video.
Typos: at ~7:50 “inguinal or femoral…” should be “iliac or femoral”. Also, a common reason to perform a laparoscopic repair instead of an open repair that wasn’t mentioned is the need for bilateral inguinal hernia repairs–a laparoscopic repair can take care of both through the same incision, while an open repair would require two groin incisions.
