2020 has certainly been the year of the eyes…and the year of eyelid surgery in my practice! Asian blepharoplasty, or double eyelid surgery, is one type of cosmetic eyelid surgery that creates creases in the upper eyelids. Patients who lack and subsequently desire upper eyelid folds may be ideal candidates for this procedure. This surgery requires the expertise of a surgeon who specializes in facial plastic surgery and understands Asian eyelid anatomy well. Asian blepharoplasty is a particularly challenging surgery, as removing too much skin or fat may put a patient at risk of an overdramatic or hollowed-out eyelid appearance.
The wonderful patient featured in this video desired natural, conservative results with double eyelid surgery, which is in line with my surgical philosophy. The video documents her surgical results immediately following surgery and at one week and one month after surgery – she looks fantastic already! Asian patients usually possess thicker eyelid skin and may experience more prolonged eyelid swelling that often takes months to completely subside. I typically perform this procedure under awake sedation, as I require the patient to open his or her eyes during surgery to confirm crease formation with suture placement.
Empowering patients with beautiful, natural results.
